What are the features of a socially just education system for 21st century Britain?
Thinking about educational change
This website has been developed to act as a site for debate about educational change. For the past 30 years education policy in England has been dominated by structural change after structural change, but to little effect. We want to open up a debate about what education is for and what it might look like if the core aims were different. Therefore, we have been involved in some small-scale workshops which have used the question above as a theme for thinking about what kind of education system we might want. The results of these workshops, plus any held by other groups will be given on the associated wiki as they occur, and we intend at various points in the future to begin to synthesise the popular ideas to create an Alternative Education Manifesto.
It would be great to hear ideas and experiences on the discussion board as well.
The workshops and this site were originally developed by two educatioanlists in Leicester, but it is hoped that this foundation can act as a truly open and democratic process about debating and developing a vision for an education system which is built on the views of many, not by a small cabale in the halls of power.
